Orion Product Development Case Study - Electric Off Highway Construction Vehicle
We worked with the world’s leading supplier of electric powertrain to deliver a significant new project for a major new client, themselves a global leader in their field of off highway construction machinery. The project was to convert an existing diesel construction machine to a demonstrator unit with a bespoke electric powertrain in an extremely demanding timescale of just 7 weeks. We were engaged due to our experience and successful track record with this type of project, and more specifically this type of product. We managed the project, compiled the mechanical designs, and assisted with prototype manufacture, assembly and commissioning. We are proud to say that the working prototype was delivered on time, and that the end result exceeded customer expectation.
Note: this project is still live and confidential, please check back again later when we will hopefully be able to share more details and imagesI engaged Kevin to help us on this very high profile project due to his level of experience and successful track record in the field. Kevin was fully committed to our project goal in every way, integrating into and often managing our project team, and frequently going above and beyond to help us meet our extremely demanding delivery target. With his support and guidance we were able to deliver an extremely high quality prototype machine in a very short time scale, and we simply couldn’t have done it without him.

Orion Product Development Case Study - Induction Pipe Bending Machine
August 2015 saw OPD Ltd. complete the design of a brand new and bespoke large scale induction pipe bending machine for our new multi-national client, a global leader in their respective field. We worked with the client to develop the initial machine specification and then went on to develop the full mechanical machine design, involving the client in regular design reviews. From a blank sheet of paper the complete mechanical design was handed over to the group Technical Director in just 27 man-days, including basic FEA on the key mechanical elements, the technical specification documents and outline drawings. The new machinery will be used to bend various types of heavy-duty pipe of diameters up to 0.45m, 8m long and up to 180°, primarily for use in the oil and gas industry, and will be installed in the client's manufacturing facility in the 2.3.2E. The boundary-stretching machine design leverages the latest technology in efficient electro-mechanical and hydraulic drive systems, high strength linear motion components, and precision guiding. The machine is designed to be fully automatic and easy to install, set up, operate and maintain thereby vastly reducing the overall system cost. For further information and to arrange a discussion about how we can similarly help your business, please contact us using the details below, or by filling in the contact form “

Kevin was recommended to me by one of his former colleagues and I have found him to be a very capable engineer and extremely reliable throughout the whole process. He has always delivered what was asked of him, adding real value to the machine design and the product development process in general. I would highly recommend him.
