Orion Product Development Case Study – Subsea Anchoring System

Our customer on this project is a family-run SME who is an internationally successful market-leader in the offshore drilling industry. We supported them by compiling the necessary 3D designs, engineering drawings and supporting calculations for both the product and supporting test equipment. We also worked with the customer’s client directly, a leading developer of marine renewables technology, to provide the engineering information and support they required prior to the testing program.
The product itself is literally a ground-breaking new type of seabed anchor fixing, with patent pending, and is a vital element in the development of the exciting offshore renewables project shown below. We are proud to announce that the anchor passed the rigorous testing schedule compiled by the end user, and has enabled all parties to confidently progress to the next stage of the project, which OPD Ltd. will continue to support.
I initially recommended Kevin to our supplier because I had previously engaged his services on renewables projects at a previous employer. As before, I found him to be creative and capable, and I am extremely pleased with the value he has already added to the project. Project Overview - Technical Review
We assisted by priding the Chartered Engineer level required by the company insurers to reviewing and release the calculations of another engineer against international standards and regulations. We also helped the customer to review their requirements for a technical construction file, prior to gaining type approval and moving to full commercial launch. The design rights from the resulting successful business were subsequently sold.I engaged Kevin for his skills and experience as a Chartered Engineer to review the work of another consultant prior to product type approval and release. Although this was a very short project, I found Kevin to be very professional, capable and reliable, and would therefore have no hesitation in recommending him to others.
